A Netbook has its ups and downs, but having a Netbook helps because, you can access your Google Docs from Home with the Internet Connection provided by the school. Also have easy access to your blog from home and anywhere else in GI, when Free Time comes we have also have access to games on our Netbooks.

As much as I have loved having a Netbook there are some things that I haven’t liked, I have had Internet Connection problems twice a week, and problems occur with our Netbook sometimes, like a broken screen, we forget our passwords and we have to upgrade. Also having a Netbook is hard because the Paint application is really harder to draw on then paper and pencil.

I think some of the advantages we have had as young students are using the internet, storing our work on Google Docs with help of the Internet. We can access the net-work from home. Also easier to write ,our hands don't have to get sore anymore.

From time to time I have been in the right place at the right time all this time. The hardest thing is resist temptation, from going on other stuff like games but I can resist. I have learnt many things from being Cyber Smart with my Netbook.

To be honest it really wouldn’t be a problem, because for six years I have been writing with paper and pencil, so I am quite familiar with the process. I would miss my Netbook though, all the advantages I had.

Out of no where someone shouted,”Mino, MINO, wake up”, finally I had awoken, in my car, on the way to school. Is it Tennis today, I thought with an unexpected urge to hit a ball. I ran to the courts and there I could see my class heading towards a row of Tennis nets, at that moment I knew, TENNIS LESSONS were TODAY!

“Go grab a racket and a ball and then wait for me to say you can start bouncing your ball ” , Marcell(tutor) said in an very high monotone voice. Hitting the ball up and down didn’t sound like rocket science, this was going to be easy...a few minutes later, nothing was going the way I thought it would, not even by one inch, the ball was being batted everywhere and then I had to go grab the ball and hit it again, this was set on repeat, “THIS...IS...MADNESS!”. I figured that Tennis was actually all about bouncing and hitting the ball so I thought I might as well begin to get use to bouncing the ball PROPERLY.

As another challenge was coming around the corner, I thought I can’t cope with all these shinanagins. Hitting the ball on the side of the racket was our challenge, later, I thought this IS rocket science. I wanted the lesson to finish already, but as they say time drags when you are not having fun.(and I sure was NOT enjoying myself)

“No its an underarm throw”, my partner Toreka explained. We had to pair up and then practise our serving and batting. Immediately I thought I was doing quite well for an amateur, serving the ball pretty well to Toreka. Just when I had started to make some progress, we were told to stop. I hope we get to play a game next, I thought, and I was right! We were about to play a game called King of the courts, which was practically Tennis.

I was up first, my 20 minutes exercise in endurance was paying off I thought. I have to hit this ball “...’HIT’ the ball went flying...out of the boundary. “ Sometimes its not about winning, its about winning...the next time! I said with a very sinister look in my eyes. In the end though its about participating and having a go, and THAT I certainly did.

MI Smarts

Here on is an MI(Multiple Intelligence) As you can see here on the right are my results to the test I took along with room 20.
The highest result I got back was Interpersonal(People Smart) which was quite of a shock for a second, but then I stopped and thought. My results were also shocking because I didn't expect getting quite low results for Visual/ Spatial and Music Smart. As you can see Logical is not a very high smart for me, I don't really like Maths. The only result I predicted that would be low was Logical.

There are 7 cubes altogether in the bucket so The possible chance of getting a yellow is a 2\7 (in a fraction). The possibility of getting a Green cube is 2/7 chance, also for the Blue you have a higher chance of getting it from in the bucket because there are 3 blues and the fraction is 3/7.

Beep Test

Yesterday I went outside and participated in my very first beep test, what is a beep test you ask?
Well it tests that tests your level of fitness. So basically you are running up and down 20 metres, but theres a twist, there are levels and rounds for instance there are 7-10 rounds in a level, and there are 20 levels.

I wasn't very pleased with my score on the beep test, my score was 3.2(Level 3, 2rounds) in fact. Quite shocked at how puffed out you could get, to be honest I thought it would be easy, but sadly no. The test was in the middle of easy and hard for me.

In my next beep test I want to get a higher mark, I think I didn't give it my best. So next time I do it I want to get approximately 5.4 , but to do this I need to try harder train harder and cut off the junk food(eg. Mc Donalds and KFC).

Canada!

Well as you all know there is a Maple leaf on the flag it stands for the maple trees of Canada, Maple syrup didn't originate from Canada it was actually the Native Americans who used it first. Though Canada is the largest Producer of the product. That is why the best Maple syrup comes from Canada! Also the colours on the Canadian Flag stand for,

WOW What a Term It Has Been!

This term has been GREAT, my highlight was learning all the cool stuff and hanging out with my friends. Another cool thing that happened this term is ART with Miss M, it was fantastic learning about art. Also my personal goal is to achieve better in Maths.

The History of the Mighty but Famous Pen

Lewis Waterman invented the ballpoint pen and Lazlo Biro invented another
type of pen. Well the ink actually stays inside the pen and you don’t have to dip in the ink pot. There is now different kinds of pens all over the world. Also now you can use different kinds of colours as in ink colours. As you can see pens can run out of ink in a period of 7 to 10 years and it can be replaceable, but that would `just be a big waste of time, so you can just go buy another pen worth one dollar and it will last as I say 7 to 10 years! That is one of the WOW factors of pens. The other WOW factor is that today some people still use quills and ink pots. As years passed the pen improved for instance the style has changed the ink has changed the appearance has changed and also the size. The first people to use a type of pen, were Ancient Indians. They used feathers and bamboo sticks and so on. The pen has improved quite a lot since then. Also the first pen was invented in Seville,Spain.

Oh NO...Vaccination

Look at the size of the needle I thought in my mind, I Seini-Mino was going to get vaccinated but I thought the nurse (Sam) was going to put some numbing cream on my arm. She injected the needle in my left arm, “OOOOWWWW”, I was saying very very very quietly with my mouth closed and smiling like I was joyful.

“Ouch”, I moaned, my arm had started gushing blood, I tried so hard not to look at my injection, but hey you cant resist looking at it. That was some real intense pain I thought! I guess Agony had struck me... It was complete distress and misery, well hey it cured a lot of diseases and it also helps.

I felt a little bit lethargic a first, but then Sam sent me to go sit down and watch a movie with everyone else. Trying so hard to sit still, my arm just kept on flailing around. I was just about to go to sleep...until Ala started talking to me, yeah I couldn’t tell her to shoush so I just went a long with it.

Having a good look at the piece of paper I had received, it said I have to leave at 11.46pm and the time was 11.41pm I really wanted to stay behind and watch the movie, but the lady said I have to go. Minutes passed very fast and before I knew it I was saying “Adios amigo's”.

Walking back to class was a nightmare because I was very weary! Nearly tripping over the steps I tried so hard to stand up straight, but I kept on trying and trying and guess what ,I got there in the end!

Geometry Translation... 2 By What?

If you are wondering what this picture is, I'll just tell you now. Here in the photo is basically Geometry... but the twist is that it is Translation, I don't mean translation like Tongan to English, but translation in Geometry. In the photo is a basic shape(diamond) and as you can see I have dragged the blue diamond shape down 2 squares and across 2 squares. It means moving a shape without resizing it, rotating it, flipping it or anything else. So that is Translation! If you don't get it at first, I was like you about half and hour ago, but not anymore, like I know 2 by 6, 3 by 5 and lots more now. I hope this information is very useful. Now we have an easier way to use telephones, The style has changed in nearly every way, Some telephones are even wireless! They now have numbers that are easy to access. As years passed the telephone improved and got better and better! Nowadays phones are nearly everywhere, like there is payphones, cellphones(you can use to message and call people) and telephones. All of the phones wouldn't be created today if Alexandra Graham Bell and Elisha Grey hadn’t created the phone from the 19th century. Destruction In North Shore!

Yesterday on the 3rd of May at 3pm a very fierce tornado came down upon the North Shore, Albany. The start of the massive destruction was absolutely gob smacking, and that was only the start of the viscous tornado! Citizens of the North shore were very shocked, all the fear they could feel was just to much even for the little ones, everyone’s adrenalin was pumping over the limit. From fierce winds and explosive power the mean beast had been released.

The aftermath was just unbelievable, the tornado left the people of North shore absolutely devastated. Only one or two very tragic deaths on that very fateful day. The peoples adrenalin had finally calmed down, but parents still looking for their little ones, and kids looking for their parents they were very worried.

The FANTASTIC Picnic

“We all live in a yellow submarine”, sung Point England school. We were all in the hall waiting anxiously to see if we were going to go to our annual picnic down at the reserve. Finally Mr Burt came and said, “Okay boys and girls lets get ready to go, “ I was full of excitement.

Reaching our destination at last. We had a little korero with Mr Burt and then we were off to find a spot to sit in.” Ahhhh”, sitting down and eating in the hot sun, I had one word to say, “Paradise”,that was a definite highlight. With a stunning view of the sea, it was just wonderful. Thinking to myself about what to do next, play touch, play kicks, make clay mud balls or just sit down and RELAX! I chose to just relax.

Unexpected shivers come down my spine and that was a sign that I was cold, so to warm up I stood up and decided that I should go and play kicks with Selena. It was my turn to kick the ball so I said its time to roll, so here it goes...BOOM the ball was off, it nearly went over the fence. Me and Selena played non-stop kicks it went on for ages, until I got tired and sat down.

As I sat down to eat my lunch I could hear a group of gossipers, and of course gossiping about something. Finally my friends came back and then we became a group of gossipers. As the day ended I was quite tired but I had a GREAT day!!

Glee Review

Greetings everyone, This here is my Glee review. It says what I like about the Glee performance we had today in the school hall. I liked how they showed all the different kinds of things that happen in Point England school.

Glee was run by Ms M( Meauliaumaselii ), I think she did a FANTASTIC job. Well done Ms M.

The costumes and the paintings were my favourite parts. Sitting through the performance was an honour. A job WELL DONE Glee!

Camp TC

Camp TC

“Ohhhh how I love morning runs”, I said sarcastically as I sat down in line ready to run. “Girls you can start to run now”, Mrs Nua said, I wasn't really tired oh well come to think of it I was really tired. I was jogging very slowly, like I didn’t even care. Finally I got to the end . I was so excited but the stink thing was that the group I was in (Carez) were serving breakfast, how could this get any worse I thought to myself. GREAT, Sugar and milk was all over my arms and hands.

Camp was was starting off as a shambles at first, but I thought to myself another three days of this wont hurt me, will it? Oh no whats next Kayaking, at that moment Ms Tito announced ,”Carez your going to Kayaking next”, that was the one thing I did not want to do at camp. Here we go again I thought bad luck was haunting me today.

Feeling the sand in between my toes felt really nice. Getting in to the nice, cold, fresh water made me happy and it felt like bad luck had vanished. I was so surprised to see that there were kayaks for two people. I was so excited to get in to the new kayaks for two people.

It was a bit nerve racking at first because there were two people in the same kayak, Sylvia told me to calm down, so I did. 10 minutes in to kayaking and I was too freaked out I was saying, “ What if we tip in a very deep part, and what if the waves push us beyond the green pole”, I was having a nervous brake down.

“One,two three”, that was the sound of me paddling.I finally calmed down, I found the cure at last. I got the hang of it now, It was very easy now that that I got the hang of it.

We spent about an hour in the water then me and Sylvia went for a little swim. I enjoyed half of that hour.

Welcome to Point England School

This is a movie I made which shows what goes on in Point England school. The movie is titled Welcome to PES, this has little snapshots and little movies of what happens around our whole school. We line up which shows courtesy also having assembly every Friday. The Point England Way is being respectful, being honest and showing the little kids the way. Even much much more than this goes on around our school. We be kind, respect others and being helpful, taking charge. This doesn't just help us it helps the community.

Little but Spectacular Camp Highlight

My favourite highlight at camp was ‘Rock Up’, they had many activities to do, but the one that stood out to me was the DUNKER because you never knew when you were going to get dunked in to the water. I liked it because it was surprising. It was a bit of a mystery to know weather you fall in. In the end all Rock up was about was having fun a working as a team . I wasn’t really use to the people in my group but I still got a long. Camp was also about learning our value for this year which is ‘Take Charge’, the teachers wanted to see if we could really take charge.

How to bulid a tent

Equipment you will need:
18 Pegs
1 Hammer
3 Poles
3 Guy Ropes
Fly
Base
Interior secure
inner tent

Instructions

1. Firstly you will need to take out the tent and the fly (the fly is wrapped up inside of the tent) and then lay it out on the grass.

2. Secondly take out the pegs and the poles. Next put any equipment you are not using aside by the bag

3. Grab four of the pegs from the bag. After that grab the hammer and hammer in the pegs into the eyelitt, make sure the pegs are on a 45 degree angle(so they wont come out). When you are hammering insure that you pull the corners tightly and then hammer them in.
Then repeat this on every corner.

4. Connect the poles then see which one is longer. When you find the 2 longer poles , put it over the tent and clip it in on to the second eyelit . After the poles are over , there is a string and you must tie it to the center of the poles

5. You then put the fly(cover on the outside of the tent)on top of it and put the door in the right place. When that is finish you insert the last pole in to the front of the tent.

6.When you are finished inserting the pole you have to repeat the way you put it in before and remember to put it back the on a 45c angle.

7.Then your tent will be done and ready to sleep in!

This data was collected by me. I collected this data... How?
Well I first made a form and sent it to everyone in the whole class (room 20). They filled the form out, and their results were sent had been sent back to me.

So I calculated up all the results and made 2 different types of graphs. As you can see I made a variety of options, but only one came first and that is the mighty BIG MAC (23.8%)!
In second place was the BK (Burger King) . Third place was the, Bacon and Egg Mc Muffin, A KFC burger and a Homemade Burger, their precentage was 9.5%.

That is only first, second and third place. So from this information I can tell what are room 20's favourite burgers.

Tech at Tamaki

We chattered excitedly as were getting ready to walk to Tamaki College.
Walking out of Point England school and in to the paths of G.I . Me and my group were walking to Tamaki College for our very first day at tech.

While walking at the back of Mr Barks, I had to pick up the paste and walk at the same speed as him, it was a bit annoying. I said to Mubasshira, “Mr Barks walks so fast doesn't he”, Mubasshira agreed with me.

We finally reached our destination at last. Looking around a bit lost I just stood in line for about 10 minutes. The teacher that was going to teach us was the lovely Mrs Heka. We went inside the cooking class, all I could hear was oohhh and ahhhs.

We first had to get wash our hands and put an apron on. Me and Muba (Mubasshira) really wanted to be in the same cooking team, and we were. The thing we were cooking on that day was Chelsea Buns. It was really fun. First we had to get out the utensils and equipment out. Then Mrs Heka gave us a few instructions to do.

Just about 20 minutes in to cooking, we were melting butter, getting scone mix, holding measuring cups, measuring things and holding GIANT bowls. 10 minutes after that we had to rinse the dishes and wash them, then pack it away. In a few hours our Chelsea Buns were cooked and delectable.

Disaster in Christchurch

Sensational Tonga

Such a hot day isn’t it. Tonga is both hot and WONDERFUL! I thought in my head. I, Seini-Mino was at Lavengatonga beach.

Sitting down and sinking my toes in to the hot sand felt really nice. After a few hours in the sand I decided to go for a swim, but just when my toes reached the water I shouted,” COLD”, the water was freezing . After that I just planned to run in to the beach instead of just walking in, so I could get it over and done with. So here it goes, “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH”, I shouted as I ran in to the beach.

“COLD”, I shouted at the very top of my lungs, as my head popped out of the freezing, cold water.
My cousins told me to move around a lot so I could get use to the water. “ Aaaaaa" , at last I was
I was floating peacefully.

Until a big, massive wave came smashing down on my face . I was swept to shore and even better ,was that I had sand in my hair! What made my day that was my aunty from Austraila asked me if I wanted to go snorkeling.

I was full of excitement when I put the mask on. Down I go underwater and it was amazing!
I could see little tiny fish, but mostly the ones with black and white stripes on them. Until I saw a rather unusual looking fish, this fish was red and weird patterns on it, Acutally I was kind of scared so I swam away, but I think it was the other way around.

While I was underwater I could hear the water come past my ears and also the fact that everyone was following me and saying,”Mino can I have a turn”, It was so annoying! So I gave up the snorkel and the mask and gave it to my cousin, so now everybody can go annoy her now.

The thing that was most irratating of them all was, when you wanted to go eat the sand would stick to your feet. That was pretty stink I said.

I had LOTS of FUN even though there were my ups and downs mainly the downs that still didn’t stop me from having lots of fun. The day ended as the sun went down, it was 8.47pm, so that means I was there till 12.00 pm to 8.47pm. One word WOW. that was the 2nd longest time I have ever been at a beach.

It was a long way home ,I got hit with raindrops because it started to rain, It was like I was getting hit with pebbles, I was on the back of a truck ,but that was all part of the fun!

Net books,net books and even more net books!

It is very cool learning with net books ! Instead of having lots of books and even better you can easily carry it around, also it connects to wireless
(you can go anywhere in the school and go on the internet without having to plug it in to a modem) I think that's absolutely amazing.

In the school all the year 5,6,7 and 8's have this opportunity, that over 200 net books! The picture above I took on my net books

"We also share our learning with the world through podcasting with KPE.

Korero Pt England began in 2005 and it is one of the ways we talk about about what we have been reading. I only began podcasting last year, but I have been listening to KPE for a long time now because my brother, Paul, was one of the first KPE podcasters back when we started in 2005. In fact, he designed the logo for KPE that we still use today.

To create a podcast for KPE we have to read a book, write a script and record it with a partner on Garage Band. We try to make our podcast sound like an interview. That sounds easy, doesn't it!

Well, recording it is easy, but we have to do quite a lot before we get to the recording part. We have to think about an interesting way to retell the plot. We also discuss the characters, the setting and the theme of the book. And we try to talk about New Zealand a little bit because our listeners from around the world like that.

Because we read so many books and have to think about how to share them with other people, of course we get way better at reading. And we also get better at writing and become confident speakers.

KPE has also helped us to make many unexpected connections with other people. We have had lots of authors listen to our podcasts and talk to us about their books.

We have talked to people around the world about our reading and we have helped lots of other kids in New Zealand with podcasting through this.

We get to help heaps of adults and we have even had the mayor of Auckland come here to learn how to podcast.

Recently we talked to some people in Italy on Skype about how we create an episode of KPE. They have been listening to our podcasts and wanted to find out more.

It is funny that reading books has turned out to be a great way to meet people! "

Pool At School

This month at Point England school ,we have a solar powered swimming pool. The reason why we have a pool at school is because, this term we are having swimming safety lessons.

We went in to the swimming pool last Wednesday, it was kind of cold. Our tutor Chris told us to put on our life jackets and got in. It was fun! Also Chris told us how to huddle in if we were in frozen water.

The lessons were great! It was fun learning about safety in the water.

The Great Museum Trip

It was an ordinary holiday Monday in bed, being rudely awoken by my sister’s arguing. I just wanted too go somewhere else today. If only I could get a break from here.

I finally stood up to a beautiful sunny day but I was still grumpy. “Aaaahhhhh Mondays”, I yawed as I was going into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I wished to go to the museum that day, but just when I thought my luck was out ,my mum said that she has $150 dollars to spend at the museum ,and she wanted to take me. How did you get that mum? I asked with amazement, she said she got it as a gift from her friends, It was a voucher, “sweet luck”,I whispered.

YES we had reached our destination, the museum. As I got out of the car I could feel a nice breeze come past me, It felt good. I could see the imposing building up above. I had to walk up a hill to get to the entrance but that was okay, what a treat!

I finally entered in and saw lots of interesting things, I could see, exhibits and sculptures. I was excited to go around and go learn some new stuff.

Me and mum went around the museum and went looking at exhibitions, but the thing I liked most was looking at the Pacific part of the museum, It had tapa mats from Tonga, Samoa and I think Fiji. My mum was really fascinated in how the navigators found land. I was interested in the patterns on the the tapa mats because some had colour and some had black patterns.

Finally after all that walking and looking around, we went to the gift shop. It looked amazing, I could see coats, bags, clothes, jewelry, lollies, shells, bears ( not real ones though) and posters. After looking around plenty of times, in the end I bought a shell,bear, lollies and a pen.

I was glad that I had purchased some items, so I exit the museum with my mum. When we had got to the car I put a lolly in my mouth,“YUMMY!” I said.

Back to School !

As you all may now tomorrow I am back too school and learning new things, but I am actually glad to go back too school because I want too see my friends and have fun. In my holidays I have gone too places and had cool new experiences.

I like the first day of terms because you learn what your new topic is and also get to have trips, new experiences and learn new things during the term. I don't know about everybody else, but that's what I like.

Indian Fiafia

Fiafia night was awesome! I was in the Indian group and our dance was great,I felt nervous at first, but when I got on stage I felt calm and relaxed and when the music had started to play and we had did our first move the crowd started too cheer . It was a wonderful feeling too be up on stage and dancing.

I my dancing group was Mubasshira, Ala , Sylvia, Toreka and me. Mubasshira was our dancing teacher and she is only a year 6 at Point England School. we added some of the moves and Mubasshira did the rest.

I had a lot fun learning and preforming the dance!

Cross Country

It was an ordinary Wednesday morning and as usual I walked in to school. But today was no ordinary day, today was Cross Country . This came unexpectedly. I was shocked, but luckily I had come prepared for this day because I've been coming prepared for three days already!

"This is a shambles", I murmured, nerves had started to come unexpectedly as the race was about to start. After that I said to myself "I can do this", soon I felt confident.

I stood up. My heart was pounding, I thought I had conquered all these nerves. Well theres no turning back now, I said.

BANG ,all the other girls took off with a burst of speed, but I had not, I was coming last, but that didnt matter because I was jogging, at that momment I realised my friends were behind me so I wasnt coming last.

My heart was pounding wildy, as I was exhausted. I was near halfway , me and my friends were still jogging because we wanted to save up energy for the finish line. I was desperate to cap,e up in the top ten but at this rate I dont think I am going to make it.While I was jogging I had noticed that there were alot of girls behind me because they all sprinted at the start.

I could feel the sticky mud rubbing between my toes.

Finally the finish line was in sight. I had gone through the playground, "i'm nearly there ", I said to myself, the finish line I had gathererd mommentum for the last sprint. Now was the time to use it.

The multitude seemed to get louder and louder by the minute. I closed my eyes when I crossed the finish line. I had crossed the finish line. I had opened my eyes and my friend Sylvia tapped me on the shoulder and said that we had come the 9th equal.

"At last", I shouted at the top of my lungs I had come up in the top 10 for my very first time in Cross Country. I was very proud and tierd at the same time.

Kiwis!

Some birds can fly high up in the air-kiwis can’t. Most birds are beautifully bright coloured-but Kiwi’s aren’t. There’s even a bird that can swim in the icy cold water down in Antartica-Kiwi’s wouldn’t even do that.

It’s not that they’re all big or they’re really small. The littlest kiwi is called the Little Spotted Kiwi. Only 1350 are in on Kapati Island. This species is smaller than a normal rugby ball.

The average size is only about the size of a normal size rugby ball. But these Kiwis can be really big. The Great Spotted Kiwi is the biggest kiwi of all and its 45 centimeters and there are over 22,000 Great White Kiwis in the whole of New Zealand.

I suppose you wouldn’t call them beautiful or dazzling. Their color is very dull and plain brown, and they’ve even got rough skin, while lots of them have the most ridiculous 20cm bill that sticks out in the front of their body. Imagine giving them a Hongi!

Most people think that Kiwi’s have no wings. They do! If you look underneath their brown plain plumage you will find their wings.Their wings are the size of your PINKY! Can you believe it?

Kiwis have a nice sense of smell. They can also put the tip of their beck which is there nose, three centimeters down in to the ground and smell worms and insects. they then grab their prey from underground, and eat it.

How could you possibly resist a, big fat,nocturnal,plain, plumaged, ugly looking, flightless bird?

If Kiwi’s aren’t cool, Then I don’t know what is?

Well this picture was taken way back in 2006 (I think!) well if you look closely I am at the back holding my jumper while everybody is taking a picture and smiling. I was at the back all sad, because I got told off by a teacher for doing something, I don't remember what for. All my friends were in that photo, but I didn't know them back then. I was even too shy to talk to them.

Well we were there because we were on a trip that was called the Art Alive Tour. Whenever I look at this photo, it brings back memories. This photo was taken four years ago. Wow that sounds like a long time ago.

Mrs Tele'a!!!

I know this will sound funny but we the extension group had to draw Mrs Tele'a ( Extension teacher) Not because she wanted us to, Its just that drawing her could help us when we were drawing a map. Did you know that this exercise helped us to draw different angles and scales. Back on to why we had to draw this picture, we had drawn this because like Captain James Cook ( Famous Sailor) he had to go around the whole of New Zealand and draw it on a piece of paper. We had to get the right scale angles and he also had to have a lot of concentration and focus. So as you can see here in the picture, these are people in the extension groups perspectives from different angles and views.

Early Maori Settlers

Approximately 1000 years ago, Polynesians were the very first settlers, to settle on Aotearoa, New Zealand. But did you know, once they had settled in New Zealand they were know as Maoris. These early settlers came from East of Polynesia! Travelling by canoes.

Trained navigators used stars by night, birds and sea swells by day. With a gust of wind, a turbulent storm had came by. Killing most Polynesians on their journey to New Zealand!

Exciting Term 3

Hello everybody, its term 3 ALREADY! This term at Point England school we have a new topic which is called 'Mighty Mariners'.

In this topic we learn about ships like the Titanic and we also learn about famous sailors, pirates, signs, canoes and wakas.

I can't wait to hear what our teacher has in mind for us this term. All I know is that my reading group the tuis are going to be studying the Titanic. I look foward to learn more this term.

My Tarawera Part

This term in extension we have been focusing on Mt Tarawera. Mt Tarawera was a volcano, and nearby to them were the famous Pink and White Terraces, which were one of the eight wonders of the world.

Where Is Mum?

It was a Saturday night, and I Mina was waiting for mum to pick me up from the movies. "Mum ,mum come" I said in my mind. I was sick of waiting.

My phone had dropped in the middle of the movie. I was panicking, my blood pressure had started to rise. Mum got me this phone only YESTERDAY for my birthday !!! I looked everywhere, but it was pitch black dark. I tried to stop the movie, and find the light switch. This phone meant more than my food and my car. How would I contact mum?

I just thought of something, I could ring my phone on Lucas's phone. "Oh NO" I said the movie had finished and the security guards, opened the doors. They thought something suspcious was going on, so they lifted me up and took me outside, I shouted at the top of my lungs "NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND".

Lucas quickly came running, " Mina, Mina are you alright" he said, " Yes, yes I am fine", I replied with anger. I started to cry. I quickly thought if Lucas and his mum could drop me off home, I heard someone say, " Bye Mina", but who? So when I turned around to tell Lucas if he could give me a ride, he was gone.

So I was lonely with no-one, shivers came down my spine like the night sky did, but I could go into the movies and use there phone but the clock striked 12:00am and only people with Id's could go inside and I forgot mine at home and I would get kicked out by the guards again. I stood still angry and scared.

As I stood still for Five minutes a man or lady (I couldn't tell) came from the mist and shouted my name "MINA, MINA", who was it I wondered with fear, but as the voice got closer it started to sound familiar, it was....

The last 8,7 weeks with Mr Hunia have been good. In those 8,7 weeks we have played games been creative and done some hard work. Today on the 4th of June Mr Hunia has left to go and study back at his Universty (a school for adults).

On his last day (4th of June ) we had lots of fun, because first of all we had to go and do sport at Tamaki College and after that ,yes after that we had to walk back to school and get changed in to our clothes because we had somemore sport.

My Reflection on ROW12

Hi everybody we have finished this years ROW12 (rock our world) and this is my reflection down below.

1. What did I do well? I think I did well in ROW12 because I worked in a team with other people . I created a shoe in a group, and I think I did well being a team captain.

2. How could have I improved on what I did? I think I could have did well on being more organised and listen more better.

3.Brick Wall ( Key ) What held me back from doing a better job? I think what held me back was sometimes myself because I could not control myself sometimes, the things I could not control myself from was talking and my team and I were struggling a bit.But we got there in the end.

Hokey Pokey

Have you ever thought of how Hokey Pokey is similar to lava? It didn't occur to us, until Mr Hunia (student teacher) surprised us! With making the delicious treat: Hokey Pokey!! I know that you're thinking,"Why on earth,would you make Hokey Pokey at school? Well,it all started in our schools kitchen.

Mr Hunia added in the first 2 ingredients in to the saucepan. Sugar and golden syrup . They began to dissolve in to a golden-brown colour. But as soon as he added in the baking soda, the hokey pokey began to expand slowly It then changed in to golden-yellow colour. The hokey pokey stuck to the wooden spoon, as Mr Hunia stirred the mixture.

Just like scolding lava, hokey pokey is viscous and runny when it is hot! As the hokey pokey cools it is a solid mass and easily shattered, porous and brittle.To us the hokey pokey felt JUST like scoria rock,because scoria rock has little wholes in it like hokey pokey.

"Well here it goes" I said. I took one bite of the hokey pokey we had made, I said, "This is delicious". The hokey pokey tasted bitter and sweet. I sucked all the syrup I could get out of it. It was real sweet, it tasted Magnificent.

We had a great day making hokey pokey. At the end of the day I felt like I learned a lot from hokey pokey and lava. It was a fun experience day.

I think the next movie we are going to make will have better delivering on the message. It will also have a slogan. When we presented our movie we thought that we tried our least best. This time we will have a second chance to improve on our first movie we made. It will have all the improvements above and more.

Taking it to the next step will be kind of difficult for us ,but we will try to do our best for our second chance at trying to make our movie more better.

Learning

Greetings everybody, do you like learning? Well I am going to tell you why I do. My favourite learning subject is Reading. Reading to me is like an adventure the only thing is that the adventure is right where you are sitting and in your mind.
That is one of the reasons why I like learning and reading.

Electronic learning (on a computer) can be very fun. The fun thing about this is that you can draw on the computer. Just not any picture you can draw, it has to be something related to the topic that your class is learning about. Like room 17 we were learning about the Treaty of Waitangi.

Learning is really important to me because maybe one day it could help alot.

The Highlight's

Hello everybody,I am going to tell you about my highlight's of the term. In fact I think this term has gone by really quick.

The highlight of the term for me was... Feeling like what it would be being a year six. I have enjoyed my couple of weeks here at Point England school, It was really great being a BIG year six. I just can't wait until next term, I wonder what other fun things we will do next term? I think we will be studying about food next term.

The video conference with D'Wayne Edwards was so cool. D'Wayne Edwards is the one of the head designer's for Nike. That video conference was amazing. He encouraged us and he never gave up he kept on trying and trying that's what he told us. That really inspired me to do better in everything.

Camp was actually the was the most enjoyable highlight this term. I felt like what it would be if I was Captain, yes I said it, a captain. When I found out I was captain I was so shocked with amazement,after I found out I thought I would be ready and show all the people I can be a great captain. Those three whole days being captain was a dream,that was just a privilege.

My goals for next term is to do well in my Writing and my Maths. I think I can achieve them by the end of next term.I have had a great term here and I can't wait until next term.

D'Wayne Edwards

As you are all about to hear it, the extension group and I had a video conference with...D'Wayne Edward's, how cool is that! If you don't know D'Wayne Edwards he is one of the head designer's for Nike (the shoe design company), If you are shocked I was at first too.

The video conference was on Friday, wait for it.... after school! I know it's just not fair. That wouldn't stop me though. I come in here as on as possible, and we were on in ten minuets.

We had started and I sat there listening very well. He told us that he had kept a card in his wallet, which his mum gave to him when he was little, he is too emotional to read it because his mum had passed away. The card talked about believing in yourself and never give up.

D'Wayne told us his life story. When he was seventeen he entered a drawing competition and he came first, the real sad thing was that the prize was a job and the managers of the competition said that he was to young

That video conference told me that to never give up. I can't wait until the next video conference with D'Wayne.

Captain James Cook Explores Aotearoa,NewZealand

Kia Ora, this is my movie of Captain James Cook. He has only been here for two weeks ,and he is loving it. He is exploring the land of New Zealand well that's what he calls it, the Moari's called it Aotearoa.

2010 feels like a NEW start. I feel like I am still in room15 but I am still getting use to being with my new teacher, the one the only Miss Garden. I have been with Miss Garden before so that's good.

I am in room17 with all my old friends,that is the thing I like the most. I have made brand new friends in room17 though. I really am enjoying time with my new friends.

Room17 is cool I am a year six now, I have been wanting to be a year six for years finally I am.
Year six feels like you are top of the world not really but close too.

Its pretty cool me and my best friend Toreka got a new job, guess what it is? The tuck shop monitors. Me and Toreka applied for the job last year and we got it. I really like it , the one thing that is cool is that you are doing it with your friend. We are really enjoying it both.

I am glad that I am year six now. I like the new year, I also like the fresh start that we have all made.

A Hurtful Moment

It was Tuesday the 9th of March, and I was playing outside until.... OUCH! a nail had gone threw my foot,well not really threw my foot I just stood on it. It was as deep as the deep blue sea.

My foot felt as if it was breathing , was this the end.Hhm!, I am alive I had shouted at the top of my lungs.I stood back up with my head high still limping. and walked back inside my mums office where I shouldn't have stayed all along.

Today after going to the doctors, I am still limping It really hurts but I can handle a little pain.

Its not a emergency, I am fine for now.

Van Gogh

What a tragic artist Van Gogh was, his feelings we could reorganize in his paintings all the sadness inside his heart. Van Gogh had used dark colours when he was sad, and bright colours when he was in a happy mood but the sad thing was he never smiled, He expressed his feelings though his own paintings .

Nobody thought his paintings were good enough the people said bad things about his paintings,Van Gough had a sickness which was depression. One day he was so mad he had cut off his own ear, It was really sad because nobody understood him.

This is me sketching one of his self portraits.

Lately, our class has been learning about the famous artist, Van Gogh. In his pieces of art,its as if the colours dance across the canvas like flickering fire, burning in the landscape. You can see a sense of movement in the impressionest's art.

A Technology Experience

It was a nice sunny day for presenting and I Seini-Mino wasn't presenting, no I was a technical person." OH NO" I said in my head as the visitors were arriving I started breathing in and out.

It was time, the signal had come. I went in and guess what I was first, just great I said. As soon as I stepped one foot in the nerves on..........after all the all the nerves I did great! I promise to come back and update with you so there were a lot of nerves in the air.

Next time I am going to work on running the technology part better and try not break anything!

Family Night

On Saturday the 5th of December I Seini-Mino came to school. You would think It was weird for me to come to school on a Saturday but wait I was not the only child here there was more kids guess who it was? It was the extension group.

I was here because it was ROW11 (Rock Our World Round11) I was also here for a video confrence. I was set in the E-learing room to go I was sitting next to Toreka watching the other schools from all around the world. They had been talking about tolerance I found there answers very interesting.

"Oh No" It was our turn I was very calm. It had started and I had sat like a statue well almost The person we had to talk to was Carolane Mc Guire. It was amazing because her boss was Will Smith how cool would that be. Okay back on to the video confrence Moses had done a Mihi in Moari. Carolane and one of her students asked questions about tolerance to us. Only Two of us had to answer and that was Paulitia and Sela. They had pretty great answers while I thought.

The video confrence was only about 20 minuets or so. So it was nearly finished I actually thought it would be an hour. On to my favourite part Leoden and Blessing had to say what there best part of ROW11 was. They said that they liked eating the food and cooking also Blessing said that he liked how people changed during ROW. We finally said the beat we have been learning from the kids of America. The beat was Fantastic but I think I could have done better.

Our video confrence had ended and that was also the end of ROW11 I really enjoyed myself this year in extension I cannot wait till next year.

Trip To Tamaki College

It was Tuesday the 1st of December and I Seini-Mino had organised a trip for my whole class to go to Tamaki Collage. I had asked my mum which was the Principal if my class could come to her Collage. She said yes so I had to organise it with the deputy Principal It all got organised so on Tuesday we went.

The first thing we done was sports I had a great time we played a game were you had to spin around a bamboo stick five times and run around the cones then back to your team. Our team done alright we ended up coming 2nd so it wasn't bad. This was my favourite game it was called fresh it was a bit like tiggy the only difference was that you had to say, "I am fresher than you." So if they said that you had to run back to base. All my class had a fun time playing that game it was probably my best.

Science was amazing we learned facts. Also we done an experiment I got scared because it involved fire. It was really scary but we also did rotations around the class room I done an experiment with milk and food colouring it looked fantastic it was like I was in a dream world
I also enjoyed myself at Science.

Next was Cooking that was amazing we had cooked Nachos my group had to get mince and all the ingredients from the bench. We poured the mince into the frying pan and cooked, "Ouch" I said as a bubble from the frying pan hit my hand. Next we poured in the Tomato Paste and onions they cooked really well It looked like a red river . almost ready I said as Mrs Heka the cooking teacher was turning off our stove. They were finally ready. They tasted very good with a touch of sour cream. I enjoyed myself a lot

Hello again my name is Seini-Mino today I am going to talk about the lost city of Pompeii which is now Italy. I found out so much about about this lost city. I didn't even know that this little city existed!

I learnt facts and information about Pompeii. This is a good piece of information I had learnt, A volcano had been in this little city and all of the people did not know it was a volcano . This Mountain was called Mt Vesuvius.

Mt Vesuvius blew up in 79 AD ( AD means after Jesus was born)and everybody in the city were covered up in volcanic ash and acid that came out of the volcano. The people were turned in to stone in there exact position. In fact the volcano now is split in to Two it was One big mountain but when the volcano blew up it got split up in to Two.

These are some of the facts I had learnt: Pompeii existed 1700 years ago.
All of the people were completly turned to stone.
Pompeii was ruled by the Romans.

My Favourite Song

My favourite song is Phantom Of The Opera sang by Emmy Rossum and Gerald Butler. I like how they sing different notes like high and low mostly high notes are in the song.You should listen to it to see for your self. Also they have expression in there voice when they are singing.

You don't expect a little Nine year old girl like me to like Phantom Of The Opera. To be honest I think this song is very interesting. My body shakes when I listen to it and I get goosebumps to I don't know why I get those reactions. The song can be scary sometimes but it only scares me a little.

Sorry I only have a little bit of paragraphs I might write more next week but this is all I can do today.

Immersion Assembly

"Whats that smell?" I said to myself as we were entering the hall for immersion assembly on the first day of Term Four. Ahhh it was Chicken wings and Sausages. "What a crazy idea" I thought to myself . I finally found out why they were cooking Sausages and Chicken Wings. The topic was Food Glorious Food. As I turned around I found out that Toreka had a Sausage I felt really hungry.

Some Mexican people came up on to the stage moving around around and shaking to some Mexican music. I realized who they were it was team three. They made me want to dance. "YUM" as I was chewing on a corn chip with some dipping from Ms Garden which was wearing a sombrero. "Yay" they brought up a pinata "I'd love to watch this" I said . As soon as they started hitting the pinata I started to laugh so hard my stomach was getting sore.

Peace and quiet as Ms Squires came up wearing a gee holding a Japanese pot with some patterns . Wow I was surprised because none of the other teachers weren't dressed like Ms Squires. It was like I was in a magical world of tea.

We just ran out of time to give out the Chicken Wings it was like a bomb was going to explode but it didn't. Hooray assembly was over and we got to learn about our new topic Food Glorious Food. I had wonderful day.

School Sweet School

I took a deep breath in as I was entering school. Well off I went to see if things were still the same they all looked exactly the same. I was really surprised because of our new topic Food Glorious Food.

I set of to class and met my class mates we talked for a while and finally Ms Squires came and opened the door to the classroom. I couldn't believe it.It was exactly the same too. I asked Ms Squires do we have to wear our hats my friends then said "NO". I actually liked wearing hats but it made your head itchy that was the only thing I hated about hats well we wore bucket hats.

I just felt like moving around and jumping because I was so happy I squeezed my friends arm. I felt energetic,happy also.

I had a nice first day at Point England School.

Last Day of Term 3

I liked the last day of term three. It was fun because me Toreka, Mubasshira and Aidan got to clean up the classroom and had to help Ms Squires finish the food. We stayed there all lunch time we also told jokes and we laughed so hard our stomachs were starting to hurt well only some of us like Toreka I made her laugh all the time. I was amazed because everyday at the end of the term Ms Squires had to stay at school and clean up the classroom. We were are a pretty good help. "Ring" the bell went and we were sad because we thought we had finished but we hadn't. We had to wipe around the computers . I really liked the last day of term three. By Seini-Mino

Hello my favourite book is Horrible Histories Knights handbook they are really interesting but some are gruesome. The author is Terry Deary and is illustrated by Martin Brown .This book is really funny to me I like it how this book tells jokes. It also tells you about what happened when knights went to war. I think ages 9 and up should read this book.

Lightly Rose Part 2

Lightly Rose set of for her journey at dawn in a strange town. She met a lady in a cloak and when she said "Hello" she felt a tingly sensation on her ankle. The lady said kindly would you like me to take you through our town. Lightly Rose made it though the town and asked would you want to come with me on my journey to find my mum the lady replied that would be very nice. After a few years later they had gone everywhere in the whole world. Lightly Rose was shocked her mum was no where. The lady had never seen Lightly Roses face until she took her cloak off and revealed herself to Lightly Rose she saw Lightly Roses eyes they were yellow exactly like her eyes were. The lady had a fuzzy sensation on her foot. Then she noticed Lightly Rose from all those years ago she left her with the king and queen . Then the lady said what is your name Lightly Rose she said. The lady said I have a confession to make I am your mum Lightly Rose. She was so happy she did not even notice she was travelling with her mum.

The prince said,"Where is my princess " ahhh I said in my head Cinderella. I wondered who was the prince I said, "Who is the prince" lucky guess it was Mr Burt.

Then he shouted, "come on up team 3". Team three did a little act of Cinderella. Miss Garden looked like she had a wedding dress on. Miss Garden came up on to the stage with a broom that had Brad Pitt on it they were all fighting over the broom. Until Mr Burt said to Miss Garden, "Are you my princess Oh No you wear gumboots."

Mr Burt said, " Come up team 4." The most favourite character I liked was The Pied Piper of Hamlin which was Ms Squires. She asked us can you guess what I did. I wondered what she did.

Finally It was the E-learning team. It was funny because Mrs Tele'a was a very funny evil queen I laughed in my head.

Lightly Rose Part One

Once upon a time in a kingdom far far away there lived a king and queen and they desperately wanted a child. One day the queen was staring out on to the land and there happened to be a lady walking in a cloak with a baby and she knocked on the door and left the baby there then vanished. The queen rushed to the door and saw the baby, she picked it up and looked into its eyes and noticed a strange colour for eyes, they were yellow. The queen looked around and went back inside to show the abandoned baby to the king. The king was amazed and noticed the same things that the queen noticed. So a few years passed and the baby grew up.The queen and king named the baby Lightly Rose because her eyes were shining like light and her lips were as red as a rose. On Lightly Roses 19th birthday they told her the story about when she was little and how they took her in. She was shocked and told the king and queen she was going to set off on a journey to find her real mum.
At dawn she quietly sneaked out of bed and packed her stuff then set off for her journey.

The Video Conference With Hamish Campbell

This morning we had a video conference with one of the most famous Geologist in Auckland and he is a research scientist and works for GNS (Geological Nuclear Sciences) in Auckland. His name is Hamish Campbell I kind of didn't know what he was saying because he was speaking so fast. I understood some of the words.

Hamish then told us about the earthquake in Fiordland which was on the July of 16th and lasted 30 seconds and no one died! and it was 7.6. magnitude and it was the biggest earthquake in the world in 80 years. Hamish also told us that the epicenter was the point of an earthquake.

Its really interesting because in 1976 in Tangshan that a earthquake happened during 4 am in the morning and 242,000 people died and it was only fifteen seconds.

He told us that the Pacific plate moved up and the Australian plate moved under I was really amazed. He also told us that the epicenter which is the point on the earthquake was on Resolution Island. I really feel sorry for Joan Wiffen because Hamish Campbell just said to us that she has past away. Joan Wiffen was a New Zealand paleontologist and found the first dinosaur bone.

Hello again my name is Seini-Mino and I am going to talk about Violin practise. My Violin practise is very tiring to me sometimes. It starts at 10.30 am in the morning on Saturdays.

I always feel like relaxing on Saturdays but my mum comes and wakes me up when I say to her do we ever RELAX on a Saturday but she says its life and I say that's a good point.

So I get into the van and oh I forgot to tell you I also go with my sister and my cousin my sister plays the flute and my cousin plays the recorder. So I am not alone. Finally we get to Tamaki Intermediate I run out and go to my class well my mum goes to the Library and wait it only takes 30 minutes so its not really a thing to wine about.But when I get out I feel HAPPY and finally I get back HOME! Allosaurus

The Allosaurus is a dinosaur whose name means Strange Lizard and who lived in the Jurassic period. It was a meat-eater and its size was 12 meters long. It was Lizard hipped or Saurischian.

The Allosaurus had short arms which ended in three curved pointy fingers to eat its prey and to hold its prey. It had 2 powerful legs to support its weight and help it run fast at about 30 km an hour. The tail of a Allosaurus was very long to help it balance. The feet of an Allosaurus were fat and its toes had sharp claws. To attack its prey and rip off the skin and meat.

The location of a Allosaurus is North America.

My Church St Marys

My church St Marys is a very fun,co-operative,nice church we have services about Easter,Christmas,Pentecost,Trinity which I like to.

But I really like our Sunday school which we call Super Sunday Club our teacher is Kathryn she is extra nice to us.In Super Sunday Club we do fun things like we make profiles and name tags we also do other fun things too.

In our church we have a Parish Council. The Parish Council is a little group of people who come together and have meetings once a month. They can make decisions on what the church can do.

Our church also has youth on Fridays I enjoy it as much as I like Super Sunday Club ,because we cook play games have barbecues and practice our youth services.
